Getting grounded isn't a punishment.

Grounding reconnects you to your center, to the earth, and to the present so you won't be knocked over by a sudden gust of change.

The best way to ground is to take time to stand barefoot on the earth. Sand, soil, grass, cement, or stone will reconnect you. The electron-rich current of the earth will move through you, relieving stress, uplifting your mood, reducing inflammation, and even promoting better sleep.
